Repairing Brick Faced Stone Walls (Hidden Fix)

Method Statement

1. Drill a clearance hole (13 mm-16 mm diameter depending upon material and the length of tie to be used) through brick facing of wall and to required depth into the back-up material. To save marking the face of the bricks the hole should be drilled through the
perpendicular joint between two adjacent bricks. The hole should be angled downwards to pass through the lower brick and then continue into the back-up material.
2. Blow out hole and thoroughly flush with water.
3. Mix Bond Flex cementitious grout and load into gun (correct length of extension nozzle already attached).
4. Pump cementitious grout to outlet of nozzle. Insert nozzle to the full depth of drilled hole and pump grout to fill hole. Keep light pressure on gun to ensure that all voids are filled with grout.
5. Wind correct length Cem Flex into the hole using the Cem Flex insertion tool.
6. Make good at surface of all holes and leave ready for any decoration.

Guidelines

A. Density of fixings will be dependant upon the condition of the brick work and the loading it is expected to withstand. In general density should not be less than 2.5 ties per square metre.
B. Depth of fixing into backup material to be sufficient to provide a secure hold (prior testing may be required).
C. Cem Flex to be installed at an angle of 30° to 45° to allow a sufficient fixing in bricks.
D. Around openings density to be increased and Cem Flex placed at 300 mm vertical spacing and 225 mm back from the opening.
