Securing Parapets in Cavity Walls

Method Statement

1. Locate and mark positions of holes on the outer side of the wall
2. Drill a clearance hole through the outer wall and to the required depth
3. Blow out the hole and thoroughly flush with water
4. Cut a slot into the horizontal mortar joint using a wall chaser
5. Clean the slot with a vacuum and thoroughly flush with water
6. Fix the Cem Flex nozzle to the Bond Flex gun kit
7. Mix Bond Flex and load into Bond Flex gun kit
8. Pump Bond Flex to the outlet of the nozzle. Insert the nozzle to the full depth of the drilled hole and pump Bond Flex to fill the hole. Keep light pressure on the gun to ensure that all voids are filled with Bond Flex
9. Wind the correct length Cem Flex into the hole using the Cem Flex insertion tool
10. Remove the Cem Flex nozzle from the Bond Flex gun kit
11. Insert a bead of Bond Flex into the back of the slot using a Bond Flex gun kit
12. Push the Bar Flex into the Bond Flex at the back of the slot
13. Insert a bead of Bond Flex over the exposed Bar Flex and iron into the slot using a finger trowel
14. Point or fill the joint and leave ready for any decoration

Guidelines

A. Clearance hole to be 13-16 mm diameter depending on the material to be used
B. Cem Flex to be installed within the centre third of the width of the wall and at a horizontal spacing of 900 mm. The ties are to extend at least 225 mm into the main or sound part of the wall.
C. The Bar Flex to be installed at a depth of 25 – 35 mm and at a vertical spacing of 450 mm (6 brick courses). Where Bar Flex have to be joined in long runs a minimum of 500 mm overlap should be allowed.
D. The parapet and supporting wall should be tied into abutting or cross walls where possible.
E. If wall ties are suspect then contact technical@targetfixings.com for further information on how to adequately fix both leaves together
