Repairing Corner Cracks Using Timber Spreaders

Method Statement

1. Rake out or cut slots into horizontal mortar joints
2. Vacuum out the slots and dampen with water
3. Cut out vertical recesses for timber spreaders and fix timber into place using a bed of Bond Flex
4. Using the Bond Flex gun kit, insert a 10 mm depth bead of Bond Flex into back of the slot
5. Push the Bar Flex into the Bond Flex to obtain good coverage
6. Insert a further bead of Bond Flex over the exposed rod and iron into the slot using the finger trowel
7. Re-point or fill the rest of the slot and leave ready for decoration

Guidelines

A. Depth of slot is between 55 and 70 mm
B. For long lengths of Bar Flex, overlap runs by a minimum of 500 mm
C. Nominal vertical spacing is 450 mm (6 brick courses)
D. Where a crack is within 300 mm of the end of a wall, the Bar Flex is to be continued for at least 500 mm around the corner and can be fixed into the adjoining wall
E. All free ends of Bar Flex (including overlaps) should be returned into the wall a minimum of 200 mm
