What is Dri Flex?

Introduction

Owing to its helical shape and excellent mechanical properties Bar Flex has a vast use as remedial wall ties and masonry connectors. The hardened fins can be easily driven through the masonry units providing additional interlock and grip. Even a relatively short embedment in the masonry can develop strong anchorage force in the wall while maintaining its flexibility.

Dri Flex is a fast and effective, corrosion-resistant solution for remedial wall tie applications in cavity walls. Its flexible, stress-free installation and superior performance make it ideal for both modern buildings and heritage repairs where installations of vast number of fixings is required.

Special features

  • Installation process
  • Material and performance
  • Fixing density guidelines
  • Testing and compliance
  1. Drill a pilot hole at least 15 mm deeper than the Dri Flex length

  2. Use the Power Support Tool and SDS hammer drill to insert the tie (below)

  3. Seal the hole using mastic or a colour-matched filler for a clean finish

  • Made from Grade 304 or 316 stainless steel

  • Tensile strength exceeds 10kN

  • Fire resistance: 30+ minutes

  • Hard outer fins grip into masonry

  • Soft core allows flexibility and absorbs stress

  • Standard walls: 2.5 ties per m² (450 mm vertical / 900 mm horizontal)

  • Minimum: 1.25 ties/m² (600 mm vertical / 1250 mm horizontal).

  • Around openings: Max. 300 mm vertical spacing and within 225 mm of edges

  • Leaves <90mm thick: 5 ties per m²

  • Custom densities: Higher tie densities are acceptable when needed — lower densities are not recommended

Dri Flex should be pre-tested before installation, as random post-installation testing is not feasible. Testing should follow BRE Digest 401 guidelines using a Target Load Test Unit, ensuring reliable anchorage in both the near and far leaf.
Typical proof load: ≤ 1 kN.
